2023 USEA Area Championships
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL
- All Area Championship competitors must be current USEA Members.
- All qualifying competitions must be USEA registered horse trials, three-day events or CIs.
- Divisions must have five or more starters to count as qualifying competitions.
No horse may compete in more than one championship in a calendar year. This restriction does not include the AEC or any national championship. (Withdrawn by USEA Board of Governors May 18, 2023, no longer in effect).
- Beginner Novice divisions will not count as qualifiers for the Novice division.
- List the qualifying competitions on the entry form.
NOTE: Whips are not permitted to be carried in the Dressage Test at USEF/USEA Championships or USEA Area Championship divisions.
AREA I
(Preliminary, Training, Novice and Beginner Novice)
GENESEE VALLEY RIDING & DRIVING CLUB, AUGUST 19-20, 2023
Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 3rd at one Event, includes amateur placing.
Qualifying Period: 8/19/2022 – 8/1/2023
In Area: BN, N, T Any Area: P
Placing 1-5 at the 2022 Championships counts as a qualifier.

AREA II

Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th at one Event.
Qualifying Period: 10/3/2023 - 9/19/2023
In Area: BN, N, T, M, P Any Area: I
Open to members of other Areas but must qualify within Area II for BN/N/T/M/P.

AREA III
Open Intermediate (OI-CH), Preliminary (OP-CH), Modified (OM-CH), Training (TR-CH & TH-CH), Novice (NR-CH & NH-CH) and Beginner Novice (BNR & BNH)
CHATTAHOOCHEE HILLS H.T., JULY 1-2, 2023
Qualifying Period:
6/7/2022 – 6/13/2023 in any Area.
Placing to Qualify:
BN thru Preliminary: 1st thru 5th at one event with no cross-country jump penalties. Intermediate: Completion of a minimum of 2 events, intermediate HT or 3*, with no cross- country penalties.
Open to members of other Areas but non-residents must qualify within Area III.

AREA IV

Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th at one Event.

8/30/22 – 9/12/23
Any Area with Caveat: Must compete in at least one Area IV horse Trial during the qualifying period.
Only open to residents or declared residents of Area IV.

Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th at one Event at the same level of the championship of a USEA recognized horse trials.
Open to members of other Areas but must qualify in Area V.
Horse/rider must qualify as a pair and both horse and rider must be current USEA members at the time of qualifying event and championships.

AREA VI
(Preliminary, Training, Novice and Beginner Novice, Intro)
GALWAY DOWNS INTERNATIONAL & H.T., NOVEMBER 1-5, 2023
To Qualify:
Qualifying Period: 11/1/2022- 10/22/2023
Placing 1-3 at a single competition
OR
2 MER earned at the level in Area VI. One of these may have 20 penalties on XC:
When achieved at a National Horse Trials an MER is achieved by completing the entire Horse Trial and scoring. -not more than 45 penalty points in the Dressage Test; and - No jumping penalties at obstacles on the Cross-country Test unless specified otherwise, and not more than 75 seconds (30 penalty points) exceeding the optimum time; and - not more than 16 penalties at obstacles in the Jumping Test. -25 penalty points received for Dangerous Riding will not achieve a National Qualifying result. When multiple Minimum Eligibility Requirements are required, one of the Minimum Eligibility Requirements can be achieved incurring 20 penalties at the obstacles of the Cross Country Test.
Open to members of other Areas, if the criteria is met, qualification can be achieved in their area.

AREA VII

AREA VIII

JUMP START H.T., SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 1, 2023
Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th in Area.
Riders must be members of USEA Area 8 as determined by their address of record with the USEA or declaration of Area. Placings earned through the USEA Amateur Upgrade Policy will count as a placing requirement.
To compete for the Adult and Young Riders awards competitors must be a member of the Area 8 Adult Rider or Area 8 Young Rider program no later than opening date for entries: July 19, 2023.

1. All entries must be submitted by the posted closing date of the show.
2.
Rider and Horse must qualify as a pair.
3. Intro through Prelim Level Qualifications: 1st through 5th at one USEA recognized event with a minimum of 5 starters.
4. Completion at any level must meet the USEF definition of a MER to qualify for championships.
Area IX Members may qualify in any area, but they must have competed in at least one USEA recognized event within Area IX during the qualifying time period, although it does not need to be on the horse they are showing in the Championships.
5. Open to members of other areas but non- Area IX riders must qualify within Area IX.

AREA X

LOCATION: SAzEA FALL H.T., OCTOBER 20-22, 2023
Qualifying Period: 11/8/2022 – 10/9/2023
Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th at one Event
Divisions with fewer than three starters, must obtain a MER.
Area X and declared Area X horse and rider combinations can qualify in any Area.
Horse and rider combinations from other areas must qualify within Area X.
