The team behind the GMHA Festival of Eventing August H.T., set to take place in South Woodstock, Vermont on August 11-13, 2023 has announced the event's cancellation due to extreme flood damage.
Bruce Perry, Executive Director, shared the following statement regarding the event's cancellation on the Green Mountain Horse Association Facebook page:
To all Festival of Eventing friends and family – It is with great regret that GMHA must cancel the Festival of Eventing for 2023, both FEI and National divisions. The combination of the two rain and flooding events at GHMA so close to the Festival has resulted in there being insufficient time to make repairs to the cross country fields and water crossings. There was also significant damage to some of the upper-level fences that will take time to rebuild. Horse and competitor safety is the primary concern at GMHA and the uncertainty of being able to provide a safe competition drove this decision.
We are working on having a combined test and an eventing derby to replace the horse trials. More details coming soon.
We are developing a refund policy to all who entered. We understand that this decision comes a day after the closing date and its no refund policy. We will have updates through email and social media as decisions are made.
For all of you who wish to help defray the losses and support GMHA, there is a link on GMHA’s main page found here: https://gmhainc.org
Thank you for all your understanding and see you eventing at GMHA in September.
Bruce Perry, Executive Director
