Get to know each United States Eventing Association (USEA) Area a little better in this new series, Meet the Areas! This month’s feature is USEA Area V which is made up of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Area V is host to the USEA Future Event Horse (FEH) Central Championships each year at Haras Hacienda in Magnolia, Texas which will take place this year on October 9. Learn more about Area V below.
Area V Fun Facts
The wide-open spaces that make up Area V have produced its fair share of top-level and up-and-coming eventers over the years. Five-star eventers who originated in Area V include Ellen Doughty-Hume, Will Faudree, Mike Huber, Sydney Elliot, and Angela Bowles. Former Irish eventing Olympian and team coach Mary D'Arcy also now calls Area V home. In addition to these upper-level riders, Area V has historically had one of the strongest Young Rider programs in all of the U.S. and won the 2018 Adequan/FEI North American Youth Championships CCIJ1* division.
They say distances make the heart grow fonder and Area V members are passionate about the events that they often travel many miles to attend. Local clubs support regional shows to help feed the need for venues.
Area V takes Adult Rider engagement very seriously. Every summer Area V hosts a four-day Adult Rider Camp which takes place this year June 16-19 and will feature instruction from Area V Advanced competitor Rebecca Brown and Olympian Joe Meyer. While training is obviously a focus of the camp, the main focus is centered around fun and incorporates pool time, catered meals, DIY camp crafts, mounted games, and serious adult Adult Rider socialization.

Placing to Qualify: 1st thru 5th at one Event at the same level of the championship of a USEA recognized horse trials within Area V.
Open to members of other Areas but must qualify in Area V.
Horse/rider must qualify as a pair and both horse and rider must be current USEA members at the time of qualifying event and championships.
