The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is pleased to announce the addition of two new communications staff members. Lisa Morrison has joined in the newly-created position of Director of Communications, Marketing and Media, and Caroline Culbertson is the USEA’s new Communications Assistant.
In her new role, Lisa will be responsible for the planning and execution of USEA marketing strategies, communications plans, and print and electronic publications. Working with program staff and USEA volunteers, she will develop content and strategies to communicate with USEA members, sponsors and other stakeholders.
Lisa will also be responsible for the production for USEventingTV, the official web video of the USEA. The wearer of many metaphorical hats, Lisa will also be shooting and editing these exciting videos in the future.
A marketing professional with more than 15 years' experience, Lisa most recently ran her own marketing consulting business which focused on helping sport and non-profit organizations develop strategic and integrated communications programs. She also spent the last 4 years on the Board of Directors of the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC), a non-profit focused on equipping women in the outdoor industries to reach their professional goals. Prior to heading out on her own, Lisa worked at Equine Canada, where she managed the national coaching program and coordinated the Canadian Equestrian Team. Before that, she worked for a number of software companies in various marketing and management positions and ran her own equine photography business.
After discovering eventing in her mid-teens, Lisa got serious about competing after graduating from college, eventually reaching the 2* level. Although no longer a very active rider, she keeps her riding gear in her car, just in case an opportunity to ride a random horse arises. Since coming to Virginia, Lisa can be found riding or hiking on local trails but she has hung up her skis and snowshoes.
Lisa has a B.A. from Stephens College (Columbia, MO) and an M.B.A. from the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Canada).
The USEA team has welcomed Caroline Culbertson as the Communications Assistant and talent of USEventingTV. She will take part in creating unique web content, managing social media, writing articles, and implementing the USEA marketing and communication strategies, as well as appearing in front of the camera. She looks forward to finding and telling your story and getting to know all of the amazing people that take part in our sport.
Caroline is adjusting to life with a desk job after working for Olympic eventer Kelli Temple in Round Hill, VA for the year following college and competing her homebred Hanoverian, Facesso. She graduated from Duke University in May 2012, earning degrees in English with emphasis on Theater and Gender Studies, and Environmental Sciences and Policy. She acted as President of the IHSA Duke Equestrian Team while continuing to train her young horses out of her home farm in Raleigh, NC.
While still in college, she completed internships with the New York Daily News in New York, NY and The Chronicle of the Horse in Middleburg, VA. She also studied arts and media at New York University through the Duke in New York exchange program.
Rarely to be found indoors, Caroline is thrilled to be living in one of the most scenic areas in the country. When not at work, she can be found at the barn with her two young geldings, hiking with her naughty pit mix Norah, and trying to perfect her guacamole recipe.
