Twenty-one horses lined up and presented to the Ground Jury of Christian Landolt (SUI), Gretchen Butts (USA), and Judy Hancock (GBR) for their second horse inspection of the 2022 MARS Maryland Five Star.
Harry Mead (GBR) stepped in to assist Jennie Brannigan (USA) by presenting her two horses Twilightslastgleam and FE Lifestyle. The 12-year-old gelding owned by Nina and Tim Gardner FE Lifestyle was asked to present again, and was immediately accepted. The crowd waited with bated breath as second place rider Tamra Smith's mount Danito (Dancier x Wie Musik), owned by Ruth Bley was also asked to re-present. The 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding was quickly accepted upon second inspection.
Lisa Marie Fergusson (CAN) opted to save Honor Me for another day and did not present for the final horse inspection. The biggest drama of the morning came when Hannah Sue Hollberg's longtime partner, Jacqueline Mars' 19-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Harbour Pilot, was sent to the holding box. There was a long pause between the final horse and Harbour Pilot's second trot up and the crowd cheered as the horse passed the second inspection.
