In preparation for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the USEA (then, USCTA) Safety Committee did a great deal of research on the affect of heat and humidity on horses and riders. Much of today's knowledge and methodology regarding cooling horses after cross-country is the result of these efforts.
Dr. David McLain, MD., wrote the following article about heat illness in human athletes as the Chairman of the USCTA Safety Committee for the July/August issue of Eventing USA, and this important information is a must-read with summer around the corner. Check it out here.
