U.S. Grant Recipient Duo Jennie Brannigan and Stella Artois Have Strong Cross-Country Day at Millstreet International Horse Trials CCI3*

Millstreet, Ireland – After a strong start in Noel C. Duggan Engineering CCI3* division at the Millstreet International Horse Trials on Friday, Jennie Brannigan and Stella Artois and continued their top form on Saturday’s cross-country day. The pair earned a dressage score of 47.10, then tallied 4.80 time penalties on the cross-country course to sit in fifth place heading into the show jumping phase on Sunday.

In December 2016 Brannigan (Reddick, Fla.) received the USEA Foundation's Rebecca Broussard Developing International Rider Grant and Cory Walkey, Beth Lendrum, and Elsbeth Battel’s 2008 Holsteiner/Thoroughbred mare received the USET Foundation's Connaught Award to further their education competing abroad. These grants enabled Brannigan to take Stella Artois to compete in Ireland.

Several other U.S. combinations are competing at the three-star level at the Millstreet International Horse Trials. Sara Kozumplik Murphy (Berryville, Va.) and Rubens d’Ysieux, Rubens d’Ysieux Syndicate, LLC’s 2005 Selle Français gelding (Balougran x Orenda D'Ysieux), are also competing in the CCI3* division. The pair scored an impressive 39.90 on their dressage test, but tallied 35 penalties on cross-country after a mishap involving jumping the galloping lane ropes earned them 25 for dangerous riding and 10 time penalties.

The Connolly’s RED MILLS CIC3*division came to its conclusion on Saturday, and Kim Severson (Charlottesville, Va.) and Cooley Cross Border, The Cross Syndicate’s 2007 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Diamond Roller x Whos Diaz), finished second with a score of 47.60. Hannah Sue Burnett (The Plains, Va.) finished ninth and 10th with RF Demeter, Jacqueline Mars’ 2002 Oldenburg mare (Rubin Royal x Patricia), on a score of 55.40 and Harbour Pilot, Mars’ 2003 Irish Sport Horse gelding (Cruising x Shannon), on a score of 55.50, respectively.
